Refurbished laptops.

Many of the laptops we sell are refurbished by ourselves and returned to good working order to give years of service to a new owner. All refurbished laptops are sold with a 3 month guarantee against hardware faults. Please see our returns policy for a list of exclusions

All our laptops that are refurbished go through the following process:

1.  Initial inspection. The laptop is tested for operation and inspected for faults and condition both internally and externally. Any faults and repairs needed are recorded. The laptop hardware specifications are also recorded. If the laptop is deemed viable it continues to stage 2 otherwise working parts are removed and placed into stock with the scrap sent to recycling.

2.  Initial clean. The heatsinks and cooling fan are cleaned along with the keyboard. The optical drive has the lense cleaned.

3.  Hard drive. If a hard drive is fitted, it is removed and all data is wiped in readiness for installation of the operating system.

4.  Hardware upgrades. All refurbished laptops are sold with a minimum of 2GB of RAM and laptops are upgraded to this during this process. Any hardware repairs needing doing are also done at this point.

5.  Installation of the operating system. Whatever version of Windows is on the licence sticker attached to the laptop is installed along with what we feel is "must have" free or open source software to maximise enjoyment of your computer. All hardware drivers are installed, Windows updates applied and the system optimised. NO COUNTERFEIT SOFTWARE IS EVER INSTALLED. If a laptop comes to us without a Windows licence, we install Ubuntu or Linux Mint which are free Linux operating systems. Unlike some unscrupulous computer shops selling used laptops typically with Windows 7 Ultimate on, you will not suddenly find yourself one day being presented with a black screen and the only thing happening is being taken to Microsofts online store to buy a Windows licence. With Windows 7 Ultimate costing over £160 and Office 2011 costing £100's, do you really think that the software on that £200 laptop you've just bought is going to be legitimate?

6.  Battery testing. During the OS installation the battery is tested to ensure it holds a charge and can run a laptop during normal use for an an acceptable amount of time. If it fails that test it is replaced with a new aftermarket battery.

7.  Final inspection and deep clean. When we receive laptops, you would not believe what we find lurking in the keyboard. We know we don't like to find it so we know you definitely won't. All laptops are thoroughly cleaned prior to delivery so you won't find 2 year old Pot Noodle remains in the keyboard!

And finally as if that wasn't enough, every laptop is given a pre-delivery inspection prior to being packed for delivery. All laptops are packed for delivery in new double walled boxes filled with bio-degradeable loose fill.
